Negeri Sembilan’s public holidays are mostly the same as other states. However, it does celebrate a special holiday each year for the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan’s Birthday.
Negeri Sembilan is not a royal state in Malaysia. Instead, the state is ruled by Yang di-Pertuan Besar rather than a Sultan. In addition, the ruler is selected by the council of Undangs who lead the four biggest districts in the state – Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol and Rembau. On January 14, Yang Di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan’s birthday is celebrated as a public holiday with offices and businesses closed.
