You can find numerous New Year’s events “of all stripes” held throughout Malaysia, both for New Year’s Eve and Day. In Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur, there is often singing, food, and various cultural events or other celebrations. Kuala Lumpur will hold fireworks displays, as will other cities in the country.

New Year’s Eve is also a time to make resolutions for the year ahead and to remember the year gone before. Many people have special get-togethers with family or friends.

Even though Malaysia is largely a Muslim country, and Muslims have their own traditional calendar, New Year’s Eve and Day events according to the Gregorian Calendar have become a tradition.
