Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday 2024, 2025 and 2026
Sultan Sharafuddin is the current monarch and the ninth consecutive sultan of the Bugis Dynasty to reign over Selangor. The dynasty dates back to 1745 and is believed to have originated from Sulawesi in modern-day Indonesia.

Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday is one of five mandatory state holidays in Selangor. This is a day to learn the history of the Selangor sultans and to visit relevant monuments and, if possible, catch a view of the sultan’s royal palace in Klang. For Muslims, there is an additional reason to celebrate the Selangor Sultan’s birthday since he is officially head of the Islamic religion in Selangor besides being head of state.
There are not a lot of festivities or official celebrations for Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday, but it is a great day to go out and explore the historic landmarks of Selangor or to use your off-day to simply enjoy some shopping, Malaysian cuisine, and culturally attuned entertainment.
