Pahang is one of the royal Sultanates of Malaysia, and it is the largest of all states in Peninsular Malaysia. Sultan of Pahang’s Birthday is an official public holiday and off-work day in Pahang, occurring every 24 October.

Ahmad Shah, born on 24 October, 1930, is currently Sultan of Pahang. He is the son of the former Sultan, Abu Bakar, who reigned from 1932 to 1974. Ahmad Shah’s reign began on 8 May, 1974, although his official enthronement ceremony was on 6 May, 1975. Ahmad Shah is the fifth of Pahang’s Sultans.
Ahmad Shah was educated at colleges and universities in both Malaysia and in the U.K. He is a great lover of sports, including soccer, golf, horseback riding and polo.
The Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque in Kuantan, Pahang’s capital city, is named after the sitting Sultan. It has five beautiful blue domes and four sharply spiked spires.
