Mother’s Day in Malaysia is celebrated on the second Sunday in May, as it is in much of the rest of the world. This day is not a public holiday, but it is widely celebrated by millions of Malaysians across the country.

Despite a proposal to merge Mother’s Day and Father’s Day into a joint holiday called Parent’s Day, so far, the separate celebration of Dad and of Mum continues. However, there is every chance that Parent’s Day will become a popular celebration over time.
Mother’s Day in Malaysia is a time to let your Mother have a break from the ordinary duties of home making, and to show love and appreciation by well-wishing, giving cards and gifts, and taking Mum out for a special meal.
Commercialisation of Mother’s Day has definitely come to Malaysia. So you will see huge racks of Mother’s Day cards for sale, gifts suggestions in the malls and shops, and numerous public festive events in major cities like Kuala Lumpur. But, the private side of the holiday also lives on, where families simply spend time together and let Mom know they appreciate her.
