Sabah has three public holidays not found in most other parts of the country:

Good Friday is a public holiday allowing Christians to remember the day, according to the Bible, that Jesus died on the cross. It is celebrated on the Friday before Easter. Malaysia has a small Christian population with just over nine percent of the country claiming to be Christian in the 2010 census. However, in Sabah, Christians make up 30 percent of the population.

The Harvest Festival is connected to the rice crop in Sabah and farmers take the time to give thanks to the spirits for a fruitful reap as well as to pray for a bountiful harvest the following year. It is celebrated at the end of May.

he Sabah Governor’s birthday is also a public holiday in Sabah and is celebrated in June. The office of Governor was established in 1957 when Malaysia gained independence from the United Kingdom.
